PML-N spells out conditions for MQM

LAHORE – PML-N Central Information Secretary and Federal Minister for Education Ahsan Iqal has said that PML-N will welcome MQM in Centre if it agrees upon Charter of Democracy, Murree Declaration and is ready to conduct a probe into May 12 tragedy.
He said that despite the fact that PML-N has reservations over the induction of MQM in Federal Cabinet, the party could show flexibility if MQM supports Muree Declaration to ensure the restoration of judges including deposed CJP Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Charter of Democracy and accept investigations on May 12 incident.
He said that if MQM was made part of Federal govt without taking allied parties on board, it would be a big blow for the coalition govt.
He stated this while briefing the journalists after the meeting held in connection with consultation over 100 days plan of Prime Minister, Murree Declaration and formation of Punjab govt at Raiwind here on Friday.
PML-N Quaid Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif presided over the meeting. PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif, Ishaq Dar, Javed Hashmi, Ch Nisar Ali Khan, Khawaja Asif, Raja Zafrul Haq and other prominent leaders were present on the occasion.
He said that there was no difference of opinion between PML-N and PPP on the issue of restoration of judges, saying that restoration of judges without deposed CJ Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry could never be imagined. He asked President Musharraf to step down forthwith in greater national interest.
He said that during the meeting PML-N Quaid Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif directed Ministers to ensure execution of 100 days plan of PM.
He said that PML-N was demanding the supremacy of Parliament and law with restoration of judges and independence of judiciary for the national interest instead of personal gains.
He said that ruling parties were not ready to work with President Musharraf. He said that people rejected Musharraf in February 18 polls. He said that as Musharraf did not had any support in Centre and provinces, so he should step down.
He said that PML-N Quaid Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had communicated the participants of meeting that PPP Co-Chairman had taken him in confidence on all issues.
He said that there was no suggestion under consideration to include MQM in govt so far. He said that if PPP incorporated MQM in Sindh, PML-N would not raise any objection.
Talking about the formation of Punjab govt, he said ‘we will adopt the same formula in the formation of Punjab govt taken in Centre’.
He said that Nawaz Sharif has the main authority to announce the name of interim CM of Punjab.
He said that Parliament is the supreme body to decide the modalities of fight against terrorism instead of a single person.
Meanwhile, Nawaz Sharif has reiterated his resolve to restore the judges within 30 days.
He said that restoration of judges was not a political matter rather it was a moral, legal and constitutional issue. “Pakistan’s future lies in independence of judiciary and no country could progress without upholding the supremacy of law,” he said. He ordered the federal ministers to harness their energies to make the coalition government successful by setting new example of good governance and simplicity.
He expressed these views while talking to federal ministers in a meeting held at his Raiwind residence here on Friday. Senior Minister Ch Nisar Ali Khan, Commerce Minister Ishaq Dar, Petroleum Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Education Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Youth and Culture Khawja Saad Rafiq, Agriculture Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain, Railways Minister Sardar Mehtab Abbasi, Minister for Science and Technology Begum Tehmina Doltana, Minister for Trade Shahid Khakan Abbasi and all provincial party presidents were present on the occasion.
He said that Pakistan’s new government would review role in the US-led war on terror. He asked President Pervez Musharraf to surrender to the people’s mandate as the verdict of people in the Feb 18 elections was clear.
“I will lay foundation stone of new politics by learning lesson from mistakes committed in the past”, he vowed. “We have strong working relationship with Pakistan People’s Party,” he said, adding: “The coalition government would end the dictatorship and reinstate all deposed judges who refused to take oath under PCO”.
“Our agenda is to end dictatorship, eliminate role of army from politics, restoration of judiciary to pre Nov 3 position, eradication of poverty, inflation and unemployment in the country,” he maintained.
He said, “The situation has totally changed, a truly representative parliament has assumed charge…. every decision will be presented before the parliament, they will review Musharraf’s policy in the last six years. A parliamentary committee would be set up “which will examine this and international concern and then keeping in view national aspirations will give recommendations.”
Online adds: The PML-N leadership has decided to nominate Dost Muhammad Khan Khosa, son of President PML-N Punjab Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa, as interim Chief Minister of the province.
Dost Muhammad Khan Khosa has won election from the constituency of Dera Ghazi Khan.
The party also finalised the name of Rana Muhammad Iqbal as Speaker of Punjab Assembly. He won election from Phool Nagar of District Kasur, while names of three candidates for the office of Deputy Speaker are also under consideration.
Sources in the PML-N revealed that the decisions were taken in an informal meeting chaired by Nawaz Sharif here at his Raiwind Farm on Friday, he briefed about the legalisation process in the assembly and lists bearing names for the portfolios of provincial government were presented to him, which included Nadeem Kamran, Dr Saeed Elahi, Ch Shafiq Anwar, Ahmad Ali Olakh, Col (r) Shuja Khanzada, Sheharyar Ayaz Chaudhry, Khawaja Islam, Haji Nasir Mehmood, Rizwan Gul, Asghar Munda, Tariq Kayani, Ashraf Sohna, Aman Ullah Dareshak, Farooq Yousaf Ghurki and Uzma Zahid Bukhari.
It was also decided in the meeting that after nomination of Rana Aman Ullah he would be given portfolio of Local Bodies.
NNI adds: PML-N has expressed his dismay over the statement of Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar in which he said that Pervez Musharraf is our national asset and the government will work with him.
Sources quoted PML-N leaders Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif as saying that both the leaders have expressed indignation over the statement of the Defence Minister.
They said such a statement is dangerous for the democratic forces and decided to seek clarification from PPP leadership.
